Chief Technology Officer (Founding Team)

We are seeking an exceptional technical leader with a proven track record of building industrial chemical plants from the ground up. This visionary individual will harness emerging technologies in electrolytic hydrogen, carbon capture and utilization, and methanation. You will play a pivotal role in shaping a company dedicated to revolutionizing and decarbonizing the world’s fuel supply.
Role Overview
Reporting to the CEO, the CTO will have responsibility for building our technology platform and engineering capability —including identifying and selecting technologies for plant integration, evaluating competing technology partners, identifying opportunities for R&D, and building a top-notch engineering team—executing on an ambitious project development timeline, and delivering drop-in ready fuels to our customers, all while supporting safe and environmentally sound operations.
Key Responsibilities
Build a team of engineering talent that will create a Rebel Fuels technology platform, starting with a pilot plant, and ready to scale to building production plants distributed around the globe.
Lead process and systems engineering capability for facilities incorporating electrolysis, methanation, and CO2 recycling.
Lead Integration of process, mechanical, electrical, controls, and EH&S disciplines.
Develop and drive technology roadmap and IP strategy across hydrogen and CO2 conversion.
Develop a strong culture around safety and environmental compliance, putting in place systems and processes to operate without incidents.
Foster a culture that exhibits grit, creativity, humility, and care.
Required Qualifications
Degree in chemical engineering or similar field
Extensive chemical/industrial engineering experience
Successful delivery of complex / novel chemical plant projects
Deep expertise in hydrogen production, catalyst based chemical engineering processes like methanation, and/or CO2 conversion
Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
Strong understanding of chemical manufacturing economics
Commercial acumen, with a particular emphasis on structuring and negotiating engineering supply contracts
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with renewable hydrogen and synthetic fuel production technologies
Startup experience
Track record of leading successful innovation and developments
Compensation
As a member of the founding team, compensation for this role will depend significantly on equity and will likely include remuneration triggers tied to priced funding rounds.
